It all started with a question.
I was at a Catholic college conference with my fellow K-State classmates during the winter of 2016. As I was walking by the area of booths and sponsors, I noticed one in particular that had a poster of St. John Paul II on it, with the question, “Can beauty save the world?”
This struck me deeply, and it began to awaken in me this journey of discovering and pressing in more deeply to the artistic vocation. What is beauty? Why is it necessary to being human? What is its role in my life as an artist and in evangelization? I had always been creative and sensitive to beauty as a kid: seeing the way shapes fit together in different patterns, noticing how sand could be molded into little villages, recognizing the different instruments overlaid in a song. But seeing this question posed at this particular time in my life felt like I was finally hearing more clearly something that before I had just heard little echoes of.
I went on to graduate with a design major, Apparel Design & Production, with a minor in Entrepreneurship, in 2020 from Kansas State University. Following graduation, I served as a FOCUS missionary (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) with students on campuses in Utah, Nebraska, and Kansas from 2020-2024.
All this time, this strand of beauty has been deepening within me as I have uncovered my artistic gifts of calligraphy, watercolor, and writing; but also, through the way I would approach evangelization with the students I walked with and teammates I served with. Beauty is a necessary part of evangelization, and I began to experience it in real-time. I also began to recognize two of my greatest gifts - creativity and relationship. And, I believe the human heart’s journey to God needs both.
This all brings me to the present moment - stepping into a new mission as a Catholic missionary artist. Simply put, I aim to lead people to God through beauty: through independent studio practice; discipling and accompanying people in my environment; and working in local schools, sharing this language of beauty where I live, in Wichita, KS.
Please consider supporting me financially as I fundraise my income to be able to give myself to this mission with generosity. I am looking for monthly gifts at this time, but if you are interested in a one-time donation, it is also welcomed with gratitude. Click the donate button above!
I invite you to partner with me to build up the Kingdom of God through beauty. May peace be with you!
